Eligibility Requirements for Employment with the Village of Port Clements
Before applying for a position with the Village of Port Clements, please ensure you meet the following eligibility criteria.
All applicants must be at least 16 years of age and legally eligible to work in Canada. Eligibility to work in Canada includes being a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident, or having written authorization to work under the federal Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (such as a valid work permit).
Permanent positions with the Village generally require applicants to be Canadian citizens or permanent residents, unless otherwise specified in the job posting.

Compensation and Payroll Information
The Village of Port Clements offers competitive salary levels that are reviewed periodically to remain in line with industry standards. The Village is not unionized.
Employees are paid on a bi-weekly basis, with direct deposit required for all positions.
Employee Benefits
The Village of Port Clements offers a comprehensive benefits package to eligible employees. Coverage includes life insurance, accidental death and dismemberment, extended health care, dental care, and long-term disability. A pension plan is also available to regular full-time employees.
Eligible employees, along with their qualifying spouse or domestic partner and dependents, are included in the coverage.
Employees are also protected with insurance coverage for injuries that occur while performing their job duties.
Leave and Time Off
Employees of the Village of Port Clements accumulate paid sick leave, which can be used when absent from work due to illness or disability. In addition, employees are entitled to paid vacation, public holidays, and various types of leave for specific circumstances such as maternity or parental leave, jury duty, and other approved absences.

POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Chief Administrative Officer/Corporate Officer, the Deputy Corporate Officer plays a key leadership role in delivering corporate and legislative services to Council, staff, and the public. This key position coordinates Council and Committee administration, governance processes, front counter services, records and information management while working with a small team in a collaborative, service-focused environment.
The Deputy Corporate Officer assists in fulfilling statutory and operational responsibilities, exercising independent judgment, initiative, tact, and discretion in handling confidential and legislated matters. Designated under the Community Charter, the role assumes the powers and duties of the CAO/Corporate Officer as required and provides evening support for Council, Committee, Public Hearings and related meetings.
Key Responsibilities:
- Coordinate Council, Committee, Commission, and public hearing processes in compliance with the BC Community Charter, Local Government Act, and related legislation.
- Prepare and review agendas, minutes, bylaws, reports, resolutions, notices, and correspondence for accuracy and compliance.
- Provide procedural and parliamentary advice to Council, Committees, and staff to support effective decision-making.
- Administer FOIPPA requests and oversees the Records Management Program, ensuring legislative compliance and effective access to corporate records.
- Support corporate communications, community engagement, information systems, and civic initiatives, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities.
- Act as Deputy Chief Election Officer and support local government elections and statutory obligations.

Qualifications and Experience:
- Completion of Grade 12, supplemented by formal education in Local Government Administration and Records Management (e.g., Certificate in Local Government Administration and/or MATI Program).
- Minimum three (3) years of progressively responsible administrative experience in local government or related public-sector environments.
- Minimum two (2) years of supervisory experience with demonstrated ability to lead and develop staff.
- Strong working knowledge of the Community Charter, Local Government Act, and related legislation or an ability to read and interpret legislation.
- Proven experience supporting Council, Committees, Boards, and Commissions, exercising discretion and confidentiality in governance matters.
- Valid Class 5 BC drivers licence.
The salary range for this position is $33-$40 per hour based on work experience and qualifications. Additionally, the Village offers a comprehensive benefits package and supports continued career and professional development.
