Parks

Located at the south end of Park Street, it serves as the outdoor recreation hub for the Village. Annually, the Community Park hosts the Canada Days Weekend celebrations with activities including our famous Mudbog races.

There is large soccer field, a track field running loop, a baseball field (with diamond and stands), a children’s playground, various concession areas (open only during community events), a covered area near the soccer field, public washrooms, a paved sports court, and plenty of parking space.

The park entrance is next to the walking trail that offers a route to either the Sunset Park (West) or across from the Museum (East) as its terminus depending on the direction taken. Walking north on Park Street also takes you from the Community Park to Millennial Park.

While temporarily parking your vehicle is permitted during the day, overnight parking and camping is not.

Located along the waterfront, Sunset Park sits close to the Yakoun River Estuary with fantastic views along its trail of the estuary and Masset Inlet. The main features of this park are the bird viewing tower (known as the “bird tower”) that provides a view overlooking the estuary, the nearby campground, the trail throughout the park offering a variety of beautiful views along the way, and then the swimming spot at the other end, accessible through a smaller trail going behind the entrance parking lot.

The swim spot has been developed with a changeroom, gazebo, a few fire pits and benches making it a cozy hangout spot.

Please note that camping within the Village is only permitted within the campground and campfires are only permitted within the fire rings the municipality has installed.

A small park near the main commercial area of the community, the youngest park in the Village, is home to the historic St. Mark’s Anglican Church, a surviving seedling of the Golden Spruce Tree (Kiidk’yass), a war memorial, and a memorial wall of community members/families present in the Village at the turn of the Millennium. It also offers a short Millennial Trail that is a beautiful and quick walk through the park from Bayview Drive to the other north end of Park Street.

St. Marks Church (formerly an Anglican church, now owned by the municipality) is available for rent and has previously been rented to host weddings, funerals and social gatherings. The Village Office handles rental of the facility.
