Elections

This page provides official information about municipal elections in the Village of Port Clements, including voting information, candidate nomination details, financing & advertising, and contact information. Local elections determine who will represent the community as Mayor and Councillors, and give residents a voice in shaping the future of the Village.

Through general local elections, residents and non-resident property electors help shape the leadership and direction of their communities by voting for candidates who will represent them in local government. These elected officials—Mayor, Councillors, School Trustees—are responsible for making decisions that impact daily life, services, infrastructure, and the future development of the municipality.

In British Columbia, general local elections are held every four years on the third Saturday of October. The next election for the Village of Port Clements is scheduled for October 2026.

General local elections are a shared responsibility between local governments and Elections BC:

  • Local governments, such as the Village of Port Clements, are responsible for organizing and conducting the election in their jurisdiction. This includes setting up polling stations, managing voter registration, and counting votes.

  • Elections BC oversees campaign financing and advertising rules under the Local Elections Campaign Financing Act.

Each municipality must appoint a Chief Election Officer, who is responsible for ensuring that the election process complies with:

  • The Local Government Act

  • The Community Charter

  • The Local Elections Campaign Financing Act

  • The School Act

  • And any election-related local bylaws

These laws ensure fair, transparent, and accessible elections for all eligible voters.
